We’re on the horizon of a new season so you know what that means; it’s time for a little spring cleaning for your closet. As you comb through piles of Prada and Valentino, ask yourself, do I have the essentials? Do I have a strong foundation of pieces that I am able to get a lot of use out of? You know, those classic pieces that you wear over and over again. Trendy statement pieces like that Gucci fringe dress you just bought are so fun to wear, but your closet still needs its basics. These key pieces will put you on the right track to starting your ideal wardrobe, and you’ll be able to incorporate the trendy pieces you already own too!
All these items are true investment pieces that are worth spending a little more on for quality since you will get so much wear all of these!

The Black Boot

I’m pretty sure I have 5 different versions of these in my own closet. A black boot with a great heel will help you transition seamlessly from season to season. Boots look great with dresses or pants, so you are sure to get a lot of wear out of these. For work, I recommend wearing these boots with black tights along with your blazer and dress combo. For casual, you can never go wrong with a good skinny jean and graphic tee outfit. This is the kind of footwear you never need to give a second thought to while getting dressed in the morning.

A Versatile Jacket

A jacket is the perfect layering piece that is stylish and also functional. It’s the perfect thing to slip on when you’re heading out to a movie date or to place over your shoulders in you air conditioned frigid office. This is the kind of outerwear that is timeless, and can easily be worn dressed up or dressed down. All closets need this piece that can be worn season to season, and can keep your warm. A leather jacket easily edges up a girly floral sundress during the spring, or looks perfectly cozy with skinny jeans, booties, and a scarf for winter.

Shearling jackets have been very on-trend for the past couple of seasons, so when the weather is chilly swap your leather jacket for an extra cozy layer of shearling.

White Button Up

From Audrey Hepburn to Lady Gaga, women for decades have been wearing the simple white button-up blouse. A classic piece that looks amazing with jeans and wedges for your Sunday brunch or with a leather mini skirt and over-the-knee boots.

Dark Pants

A true work essential. Yes, black does go with everything, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be boring. Wear your black pants with everything from white sneakers to your Jimmy Choo stilettos. You can choose a skinny leg pant, or even wide leg if that is more your style. Bored with that basic black? Go for a leather pant or try a deep navy.

The Work Tote

Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a working professional, you need a tote. I don’t know about you, but I carry practically half my life in my handbag every day, so I want a bag that is going to look good with everything and is going to last. We all need something stylish to keep all our essentials in, and that’s where a classic designer tote bag comes in. This Chanel tote will last you forever so consider it an investment purchase.
